Ephesus and Pamukkale together

Ephesus is near Selçuk on the Aegean side, Pamukkale is near Denizli inland. From Selçuk it is about 200 km and about 3 hours by car without sightseeing stops. These are planning values that depend on your start, the route and the gate you leave from.

That distance makes a one-day visit to both places long. Two-day packages exist, including a two-day combination from Istanbul. Check the order of the stops in the description. In at least one package Pamukkale comes first and Ephesus second, and the title does not show that.

This page covers the connection between the two. For the terraces, the pools and Hierapolis, follow the link to the Pamukkale guide. Ephesus entry prices are on the tickets page, and you can fly in from Istanbul as well.

Ways to get between the two

Three common options, from the simplest to the most flexible.

For most visitors who want both places without driving, a two-day package is the easiest plan. If you travel on your own, spend the first day at Ephesus, sleep in Selçuk and leave for Pamukkale the next morning.

Tickets and museum passes

A standard Ephesus ticket does not cover Pamukkale. Tour packages and regional passes work separately, so read each product on its own terms.

The MuseumPass The Aegean costs €95 and is valid for 7 days from the first entry, with one entry per museum. It covers the regions of İzmir, Aydın, Muğla and Denizli. The MuseumPass Türkiye costs €165 and is valid for 15 days. Both exclude night visits to museums. The Aegean list includes the Ephesus site, the Ephesus Museum, Ayasuluk and the Basilica of St John.

The Terrace Houses have their own ticket of €15, and pass coverage for them is not the same everywhere. Ask at the ticket office. See the Terrace Houses page before you buy.

Practical points for the trip

Treat the 3-hour drive as the centre of your day on the road. Add time for fuel, a break and the entrance queues at each end. In winter, from 1 October 2026 to 1 April 2027, the Ephesus site closes at 18:00, so an arrival late in the day leaves little time.

The Terrace Houses close at 17:00 in that period. If they are on your list, see them in the morning of the Ephesus day. For the onward journey, the getting to Pamukkale guide explains the local side from Denizli. The ground you cover in Ephesus is described on the self-guided route page.

Ephesus is also a place of pilgrimage for many visitors, and the House of the Virgin Mary near Selçuk is open from 8:00 to 18:00. It fits into the Ephesus day or an early start on the second morning, but not into the drive.

Ephesus and Pamukkale: frequently asked questions

How far is Pamukkale from Ephesus?

About 200 km from Selçuk, roughly 3 hours by car without stops. Your start point, the route and the gate you leave from change the time.

Can you do Ephesus and Pamukkale in one day?

It is possible on a long tour, but the drive takes about 3 hours each way. Two days give more time at both places and fewer hours on the road.

Does an Ephesus ticket include Pamukkale?

No. A standard Ephesus ticket does not cover Pamukkale. Tour packages bundle the entries in their own price, and museum passes are separate products.

Can I travel from Ephesus to Pamukkale by public transport?

Yes, via Selçuk and Denizli, with local transport at the end. An estimate is 4 to 5 hours including the change. Check the current timetable before you go.

Which pass fits an Ephesus and Pamukkale trip?

The MuseumPass The Aegean (€95, 7 days) covers İzmir, Aydın, Muğla and Denizli. It makes sense if you visit several museums and sites in that time. The Terrace Houses are a separate matter, so ask at the ticket office.
